Cybersecurity: Response, Remediation and Recovery
October 15 | 12PM

While we could not hold the CyberUp Summit this October due to COVID-19, the Southern Piedmont Technology Council in conjunction with Averett University are bringing together cybersecurity experts to discuss cyber attacks and provide guidance on how to prevent them, in honor of National Cybersecurity Awareness month.

Allen Jenkins, SyCom Technologies, will discuss cybersecurity fundamentals, emerging threats to business and industries and the steps needed to take to protect your business.

Chris Puryear with Person County NC and Greg Manson with Logically will discuss how Person County government was affected from a ransomware cyber-attack. They will share how they quickly responded and remedied the attack and how they are recovering from the attack.

About the Speakers

Allen Jenkins, CISO/Vice President of Cybersecurity Consulting, SyCom Technologies

Allen Jenkins has over 25 years of experience in the Information Technology field. He has worked in a wide range of positions covering systems administration, systems engineering, management, and consulting. Allen’s primary focus over the years has been on Information Technology Infrastructure solutions. Working with businesses in varying capacities, he helps assess, plan, design, deploy and support their IT needs. Most recently, he has been primarily helping customers reduce risks to their environments through assessment methodologies that center on a top-down approach—working with executives and business leaders on policy and procedure then evaluating the technology in place to support those business initiatives.

Chris Puryear, IT Director, Person County NC

Chris Puryear has over 14 years of experience in information technology with Person County. Chris began his career with Person County Government in 2005 as an intern for the IT department.  In July of 2006, he was hired full-time as the third member of Person County IT which has since grown to a team of eight (8).  Since then, he has risen through the ranks and was named Person County’s IT Director in July of 2017.  During his time as IT Director, Chris has overseen projects such as a cross-county fiber installation for emergency communications and economic development, a public/private partnership for broadband expansion in Person County, and most recently, recovery from a cyber event.  He has been a member of North Carolina Local Government Information Systems Association (NCLGISA) since 2006 and is a recent alumnus of the Leading for Results program through the UNC School of Government.
